GIBBS STREET
PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Email Address: GibbsStreet.PS@eddept.wa.edu.au
Web Address: www.gibbsstreetprimary.iinet.net.au Volume 1, Term 3 July 23rd 2007
Welcome back to School to all families. We
trust everyone had a very relaxing and enjoyable break. Term 3 is a very
positive term with many events to look forward to, including the class
photographs and the faction athletics. We look forward to the great parent
support always evident at Gibbs Street events.
We are always delighted to return to School
and be welcomed by the excellent work by our Gardener (Bob) and cleaners
(Karen, Tracy and Tracy) who completed important tasks during the break. Well
done team!
TALENT
QUEST
What
an absolutely wonderful event to finish Term 2. The large number of parents who
attended would have been totally inspired by the great talent evident in our
School. Thank you to all families who supported the event and congratulations
to all the children who participated over the 4 weeks of this year’s quest.
A
big thank you to all the helpers on the day, including Mr Grant and Mr Isard
(who arranged the excellent stage backdrops), Mrs Horoch (our photographer),
Mrs Morphett and Mrs McCain (our adjudicators), Mrs Reynolds (prize
coordinator), Mrs Dale (our program coordinator) and to the Student Councillors
and boys from Area 3.
We
hope to see everyone at the 2008 Quest.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS REYNOLDS
Each
year the Premier of Western Australia calls for nominations from the School
community for teachers who demonstrate excellent commitment and quality towards
the education of our children.
Earlier
this year, Mrs Reynolds was nominated by some mothers from the SHARE Program
for her long serving dedication to this very successful Gibbs Street
initiative. We are really pleased to announce that Mrs Reynolds has been
selected as a Round One winner from the Canning District. This is an excellent
reward to her, and the School, for an initiative which has supported a large
number of families and children over 14 years. Mrs Reynolds will now progress
to the final selection later in 2007 for the selection of Western Australia’s
Teacher of the Year Award.
Gibbs
Street has a large number of excellent teachers and parents might like to also
consider nominating another member of staff for Round 2. Details are available
from the Office.
KINDY AND
PRE-PRIMARY 2008
Please
note, registrations close this Friday (July 27) after which enrolments will be
coordinated and placements offered.
Please
advise any parents yet to register, to visit the School as soon as possible.
LAPATHON
Congratulations
to all families on an amazing effort. The Lapathon is a highly successful event
held at the School each year and since 1992 has resulted in some great
facilities for the children.
Next
week we will announce all the details of the winning classes and individuals.
The
total raised is approximately $7,000, which is a significant effort.
We
will quickly move to complete our planned projects at Western House and the
bike racks, in Term 3.
PARENT CONTRIBUTIONS
We
were really delighted, at the Talent Quest Final, to draw the winner of this
year’s raffle. Thank you to all the families who supported us with their contribution
for 2007. We very much appreciate your support.
The
prize this year is a beautiful two night stay at Kirup Kabins, Kirup, which is
a fully self contained farm stay. This is a wonderful getaway for the lucky
family.
The
winner this year is Deanna Richardson (Luke-Logan, Kindy). We know her family will thoroughly enjoy
their prize and we look forward to exciting news.
YEARS 5-7 DANCE SPORT
The
children from Areas 2, 3, 4, 5 have a very exciting term ahead. Every Tuesday,
during this term, they have a lesson on “pop dance/sport”, which is highly
motivating and enjoyable. Mrs Shenton has worked hard to enable this program
for the School and we look forward to the outcomes.
Parents
will all be invited to watch the final lesson to see a display of the great
outcomes.

STAFF WORKSHOPS
On
Friday July 20 and Monday July 23 the staff participated in some important
workshops. The July 20 workshops focussed on Science across the whole School
while the July 23 workshops were a combined exercise between Gibbs Street and
Beckenham Primary School. The staff worked at the two schools and shared
assessment standards on comparable children’s work. This is an important part
of our moderation processes and enables the staff to consider what is
appropriate levels for the work they are assessing.
CLASS PHOTOGRAPHS
We
will send home all the details and prices for this Year’s photographs next
week. The class photographs will be taken on Tuesday August 14.
